Let's talk about about Equal Opportunity Housing

LWVJoCo supports safe, affordable housing for people of all income levels. Join us this Thursday, April 8 at 6 p.m. to learn about the Johnson County Municipalities Community Housing Study. Panel members from the Johnson County Health Equity Network will drill down on the complexities of overcoming barriers and present opportunities for making Johnson County a welcoming place for all. 

PPFM Day of Action

PPFM Week of Action

The People Powered Fair Maps (PPFM) redistricting initiative seeks to ensure that every voice is heard in the democratic process, including the drawing of district boundaries.
 
LWVJoCo, along with Leagues throughout Kansas, have planned a week-long series of PPFM events, starting with the virtual state Convention. Additional activities include:
  • 4/25, any time: Watch the recording of "Gerrymandering and Fair Representation: What Kansans Need to Know"
  • 4/26, 6:30 p.m.: Watch a short documentary hosted by LWV Wichita-Metro on their YouTube page
  • 4/27, all day: #KansansDeserveFairMaps Advocacy Day. Stay tuned for details
  • 4/29, 9 a.m.: LWV Day of Action National Kick Off Pep Rally. Watch it live!
  • 4/29, 6-7:30 p.m.: #KansansDeserveFairMaps Panel Discussion. Registration info coming soon.

The state convention is coming. Are you ready?

The League of Women Voters of Kansas State Convention is scheduled for April 24, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The meeting will feature keynote speaker Dr. DeAngela Burns-Wallace, Kansas Secretary of Administration, and all League members and the public are welcome to join in and receive a bit of inspiration. 
 
Voting delegates will be asked to vote on:
  1. LWVK Budget - 2021-2022
  2. Concurrence Position Update: Criminal Justice
  3. Proposed Position Update Study: Juvenile Justice
  4. Proposed Bylaws Amendments
  5. Nominations Committee Report

The For the People Act is the democracy reform bill the American people want and deserve. The House has again passed the bill. We cannot let it get stalled in the Senate againContact your Senator today and tell them to support the For the People Act (S1).
Last chance: Legislative Coffee
Join us for the last of the virtual coffee talks for this legislative session, scheduled for April 10 at 9:30 a.m. with Representatives Stephanie Clayton (District 19), Jerry Stogsdill (District 21) and Jennifer Day (District 48). LVW CEO Virginia Kase on gun reform
