Commissioner Connie Schmidt walked the group through each stage of mailed ballot processing, from their arrival at the Johnson County Election Office to final vote tabulation.
6 reasons to have confidence in mail-in voting

Voters can trust in the safety and security of the mail-in voting process, regardless of recently politicized claims to the contrary. Since 2000, more than 250 million votes have been cast via mailed-out ballots, in all 50 states, according to the National Vote at Home Institute. And by-mail voting was used by a quarter of the electorate in 2018, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

Johnson County Election Office mails advance ballot applications to registered voters

Starting the last week of May, registered voters in Johnson County will start receiving advance ballot applications for the August and November elections. In response to the pandemic, the Johnson County Election Office mailed advance voting applications to every voter in the county.
Voters can return the applications three ways:

1. By mail: The applications can be folded into a self-addressed envelope and mailed to the Election Office (stamp required).
2. To the 24-hour, drive-through ballot boxes at the Election Office: The ballot boxes are located at 2101 E. Kansas City Road in Olathe.
3. By email: A photo or scan of the applications can be sent to votebymail@jocogov.org.

Federal appeals court affirms decision in LWV of Kansas case

Kansas voters do not need to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote, a Kansas federal appeals court affirmed May 30. The decision keeps in place a previous court ruling that found the citizenship proof requirement violates the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause and the National Voter Registration Act.
